BABY CLOTHES FOR WINTER
Winter is not over yet. We are all longing for spring but we’re not there yet. But winter is a magical time so let’s enjoy every bit of it while it’s here! Here in Sweden where our office is located it can get quite cold this time of the year. Way up north temperatures can drop down to -30ºC. Gets freezing just writing about it! It’s important to dress warm during cold days like these, especially for newborns. It can be stressful for new parents but we got some tips on baby clothes for winter to help you out.

Baby clothes for winter – what to wear
The whole country is wrapped in a white blanket. Our hearts get warm, but our fingers and rest of our body freeze. It’s common that you wonder if your baby is big enough to get through the cold winter. And of course, what to wear to make it easier. It depends on the temperature, but you should avoid temperatures below -25ºC with a baby that’s younger than three months. If it’s warmer you can go for a little walk two to three weeks after birth. The general rule when dressing your baby is that your baby can wear the same as you PLUS ONE LAYER. Layering is key dressing for cold days.

Layering baby clothes for winter
Newborns and toddlers are less able to regulate their body temperature which makes them extra vulnerable. You can’t just throw on a baby jacket and call it a day. In fact, dressing a baby for cold temperatures requires extra planning. As we say in Sweden: There’s no such thing as bad weather, just inappropriate clothing. Layers provide insulation and can be added to or removed in order to find the best comfort. A thin onesie, then a long-sleeved shirts and pants, then a sweater or a sweatshirt, and jacket is a perfect start. Don’t forget the feet! But be careful about not going overboard. Your baby can overheat just as easily as they get cold.
Fascinating snow
By 6 months, even before your little one can walk, she/he will probably be excited by the snow’s novel texture. The most important thing when dressing for snowy days is that it should keep you warm and dry. A waterproof snowsuit or a snow jacket – and waterproof pants and boots – are a must. Don’t forget a warm hat and waterproof mittens as well! There is no set limit on the amount of time you can play in the snow, use your judgment and take the baby inside when showing discomfort. Babies lose most of their heat through their heads so make sure to use a warm hat to keep them warm. It’s important to choose the right baby clothes for winter to keep your loved one happy!
